Bio

Si Clark is an illustrator/animator who grew up in a little village in the Cotswolds. After graduating from The Arts Institute at Bournemouth he moved to London. This has been a huge influence on his work. He now works obsessively on numerous illustration projects and is currently designing and animating for a kids show for Nickelodeon.

Artist Statement

I feel the obsessiveness of my personality is evident in my work. I get fixated on certain little things: trees, fire, water, and then cannot stop drawing them, but then my mind will go off following another obsession. Texture is probably the strongest one. Exploring new ways of creating this using any material I can find. Juxtaposing the idyllic surroundings of my childhood with the cityscapes of my current residence, I find inspiration almost everywhere I go. I also have a fascination with clean graphical symbols which I like to add to the rough, textured work, trying to create a feeling of thought processes.

Statement on "Mecha/Organic":

My paintings in this show all revolve around the idea of a living city. Each one a living organism that millions of people inhabit. I always feel this way traveling on the subway, going down into the heart of the city through it's veins. The ideas for these pieces also comes from the beauty I find in dilapidated industrial structures where nature has begun roam freely around, to take back the space it once owned. The juxtaposition of growth and destruction.
