Molly Mitchell is a visual artist, costumer and dancer who lives and works in San Francisco. Her artwork often floats between genres, combining unconventional costuming techniques with installation and performance to explore the relationship between bodies in motion and their environment. Her most recent project, Interlaced, featured two dancers connected through costumes of rubber straps that interwove between them and the gallery space, to make visible the often intangible connections and lines of communication between dancers and the space they move in. Molly's studio life is strongly influenced by her dance life as a member of Deshret Dance Company, one of the Bay Area's premier Tribal and Dark Fusion belly dance troupes. In addition to her performance work of various types, she spends her time making custom costuming and artwear, mostly out of things you probably wouldn't think could go on a body, like copper wire and twist ties. Molly is here to prove otherwise.
