Libby Bulloff is a creative conceptualist and digital photographer, recently relocated to Seattle. She spent nearly a quarter-century in Indiana before migrating to the Pacific Northwest to seek her fortune and stir things up. Libby holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Indiana University in English Literature and Telecommunications Design and Production. A bit of a renaissance woman, she contributes to SteamPunk Magazine, maintains a small business dedicated to wearable art, and occasionally plays freelance hairdresser for rock stars.
Libby's photography and projects have been featured in Businessweek Magazine, Weird Tales Magazine, the Boston Phoenix, and on blogs such as Boing Boing and WarrenEllis.com.
Dubbed "...the Annie Leibovitz of steampunk portraiture" by Gareth Branwyn of MAKE Magazine, Libby held the first steampunk solo gallery show in America in 2007. She is excited to bring some of the finest retrofuturistic artists in the United States to Seattle.
My 2-D and 3-D work synthesizes art and craft, retrospect and innovation. It subtly speaks of impossibly wondrous worlds, birthed of the discarded and forgotten, in order to resurrect hope for a fantastic future. I strive to find beauty in the ruins of mainstream and alternative culture. Not everything is art, but everything is art supplies.
My fantasy world is a sustainable place populated by strong and responsible people, tempered by a long lost past and a frighteningly near future, and laced with magic and wonder. This place exists in pockets in the real world, and I have done my best to capture glimpses of it in my work for this show. I'm upset that an aesthetic I hold dear to my heart often seems at best hollow and distant, and thus I feel it is my duty to inject vibrancy and vehemence into it.
