Bio
Lauri Robertson is a Seattle-based artist, originally from San Francisco, California. Her
father was deeply instrumental in cultivating an artist, and exposed her early on to Art
Deco, Art Nouveau, Midcentury Modernism, and the Arts and Crafts movement as well as to
artists such as Charles Addams, Harold Gray, Jon R. Neill, Mark Alan Stamaty, Erte, Tamara
DeLempicka,Edward Gorey, and Arthur Rackham. She taught herself how to paint through
library books shortly after the birth of her daughter, eleven years ago. Lauri currently
lives in the deep woods and has a painting studio in an old barn. She lives with her
daughter, fiance, a dog and a cat. Artist Statement
I prefer not to explain my work and whatever it might mean, because I'm really not quite
sure and others' interpretations are usually more interesting. To paraphrase Sister Wendy,
when an artist tells you what his piece means, don't believe him.|

Statement on "Sweet 100":
Moving from Seattle to a remote, heavily-wooded area has affected my work. There is just so much beauty and mystery in the forest. It is so incredibly dark at night, yet the moon has never looked brighter, illuminating our little area so brilliantly. You hear strange noises all the time reverberating out of the pitch-black darkness, and it is simultaneously still yet fiercely alive.
