Pulling from the energy that inspired Abstract Expressionists to drip paint onto canvas, Jose adds control to this technique, allowing for both spontaneous movement and draftsmanship in this new series. These paintings are composed of acrylic dripped and pulled across the canvas, creating a harmony of color and form. The results are expressive interpretations of both familiar and unfamiliar urban scenes.
A self-taught artist, Jose has recently gone back to school to finish an Illustration / Motion Design BFA at Cornish College of the Arts. Born in New York City and relocated to Seattle at 13, Jose has continued to create art throughout his life. This current collection of paintings was born from efforts over the last year working in his studio at Pioneer Square. His latest work pulls inspiration from his youth as the graffiti artist TAJ. Tony Taj is the brush name signed in this collection - with reflections of the New York City vibe that formed his impressions in his early years.
Jose's paintings have been collected and exhibited throughout the United States. In addition he has freelanced on numerous projects including artwork for a national restaurant franchise, and design for product packaging.
