John Osgood is a Seattle based artist who works with many mediums, but primarily focuses on acrylics, oils, and spray paint. Before his move to Pullman to go to college at Washington State University he started experimenting with oil paints and never looked back. With the idea of "cover the whole page or canvas" and "anything can be covered up" John's style of loose splashes of paint with a constant covering of blocking and lines gave way to how he creates today. John's work is loose, hectic, and chaotic which he likes to show with his on going theme of "Faces". John currently lives and works in the Greenwood area where he and his wife run their gallery, Bherd Studios.
I paint to express human emotion whether it is humorous, depressing or inspiring. I am very process oriented: I throw, drip, block and layer paint. I never know what I am going to get when I begin– I am always waiting to see what is forming before I decide to refine the painting. I may turn the painting from side to side multiple times before I can see the next step. I use vibrant contrasting color palettes to illicit a “pop” factor. I believe that colors pull people into my paintings and I often juxtapose bright vivid color with depressing emotions to provide balance and to surprise the viewer.
