Bio

Originally hailing from New York and moving to Seattle in 2001, Darwin quickly became immersed in the weekend raves that were held at the now defunct NAF Studios. The music was just a backdrop to having a good time and partying. But stumbling upon the drum and bass room by chance one faithful night with the sounds of breakbeats and thick basslines changed all of that forever. After picking up a set of 1200’s and locking himself away in his bedroom, his first chance to showcase his talents came in 2004 as he was offered to run a weekly drum & bass night in Seattle with his crew S.Y.S.T.E.M. After a year of booking local DJ’s and getting his head around to the local scene he began to receive bookings in and around Seattle. In 2005 he began assisting local legend Kid Hops on his monthly FM d&b radio show entitled Expansions and also once a week on the dancehall, roots, reggae & rocksteady inspired Positive Vibrations. Gaining a vast knowledge of music and helping push the more soulful sounds of drum and bass. In 2006, Darwin turned his head to production. Having messed about with beats for a few years and taking a year long course in Music Production at the local college DJing was still main passion. But after recalling influences from his mothers Motown roots and other delta blues & jazz influences he began to infuse the likes of Ray Charles, Thelonious Monk, Marvin Gaye, Bessie Smith, Frank Sinatra and others into 174 BPM breakbeat. Two of his tunes happen to fall into the hands of Hospital Recordings boss and drum and bass legend Tony Coleman. Getting play on two different Hospital Podcasts in which Tony was quoted as saying that the tunes were a “breath of fresh air in Drum & Bass today”. You can also catch Darwin djing with fellow Out For Stardom hip hop henchman Terry Radjaw & Buffalo Maddona of the H.O.E Family. With a slew of fresh new tunes, creating sound and music for theatrical plays, regular DJ gigs from Seattle to New York & playing along side the likes of Danny Byrd, Mutt, Nu Tone & Chris Renegade, Darwin shows no signs of letting up in the near future as he continues to push his own unique style of music & art.
