Bio
I was born and raised in South Seattle and then Kent, WA, where I graduated from high school in 1997. Although art played an important role in my childhood, the creative passion slowly lost its luster by high school. After a couple of tours of duty in the military and a chance drawing class I took while at community college, I was able to rediscover the passion that I had buried for so long. After some more art and design-related classes at Green River Community College, I transferred to Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, where I'm currently studying Visual Communication Design. While it seems as though design has given me a new voice to express my artistic endeavors, painting will always remain a constant outlet for my creativity.
Artist Statement
Creating is my passion. My art transforms this passion into a medium that can be shared with others. Drawing influence from the urban landscape as well as cultural and ethnic icons, my work also expresses elements beyond one’s normal perception. Seeing people and things not only for who and what they are, but also for what they stand for, creates a creative platform from which my work takes shape. Environment, community and culture shape my inspiration. I view all people, places and things as a blank canvas for creativity. My intent and mission as an artist is to fuse together the ordinary with my inspirations in a manner consistent with the influences in my life in an effort to communicate with others.
