Artist Statement
In my art, I am taking a lot of traditional concepts and ideas,
merging them together and making something completely my own. My base
of inspiration comes from Mexican Bark Paintings. The colors and line
work really drew me into the details if the birds and fish of these
textile. Living in the Northwest I gained an appreciation for Asian
art such of Japanese and Tibetan themes. With these 3 strong
influences I feel my concepts in terms of ideas and opinions are able
to flourish and be conveyed to a wide audience. My illustrations tend
to be more personal. There is room for greater detail and I have lot
of personal investment in making them. I guess you could say they are
my therapy. With my paintings I am able to utilize my line stroke and
colors to impress on the viewer a feeling without being as literal as
in my illustrations. I feel I have a healthy balance for the 2 mediums
and feel they both support one another in making me a well rounded
artist.|
